With its cobbled streets and illuminations, I think Ashton Lane is one of the most charming streets in Glasgow. The Glaswegians and the students like to meet there. And I can understand them. There are plenty of bars and restaurants, it’s welcoming.
It’s hard to believe that it was not always like that! In the 1970s, Ashton Lane was a rather dilapidated street. It owes its rebirth to the Ubiquitous Chip. The restaurant bet on a simple but imaginative Scottish cuisine, with excellent local produce. And the customers came!
Since then, the street has regained its splendor and « The Chip » is still a great address. It’s a bit expensive but I loved the Barra Island scallops and the selection of artisanal cheeses. With a glass of Scotch Whisky, it’s really amazing !
