Bealach na Bà is one of the highest roads in Scotland, a true legend! In a few kilometres, it goes up to 626 meters of altitude to go back down to sea level. When the weather is nice, it is the most amazing way of reaching the peninsula of Applecross.
But there, I understood that you don’t joke with Bealach na Bà. Down the road, a sign warns me: in winter, it is strongly advised not to take the road. Hairpin bends and 20% slopes do not mix well with snowfall!
After 3 kilometres, I stop at this stone bridge. Beyond, Bealach na Bà is lost in the low clouds. The snow is now falling copiously. The storm is getting closer. I find my tracks left on the rocks and I turn back. Applecross, I’ll see you on sunny days!
