climbing-in-an-old-church-sir-edwards-roadtrip

While walking in Scotland, one sometimes sees old churches transformed into a pub or a hotel. In Fort William, the church became a climbing club. It must be said that there is a high ceiling!

The story of this converted church intrigues me. The Macintosh Memorial Church, I am told, has not been a place of worship since 2007. It was built in the 19th century as a result of dissension within the Church of Scotland. In deep disagreement, some of the faithful had decided to go and pray elsewhere.

Since then, almost everyone has been reconciled and Fort William has ended up with an extra church. The building was sold several times and it was finally a climbing club that undertook the renovations. Thanks to sport, the Macintosh Memorial Church has found a second life.

And I can learn climbing in the Lochaber area, no matter the weather!
