highland-games-under-the-expert-eye-of-referees-sir-edwards-roadtrip

If you want to feel the Scottish culture, you must definitely attend a Highland Game. These Scottish games take place in the Highlands from May to September. For one day, bagpipers, weight throwers and runners compete.

Even though it is a party atmosphere, the competition itself is very serious. Just watch the referees! I observed these two gentlemen for a while. Patiently, they mark the bagpipers. The musicians pass before them to play. The two referees squint to be sure they don’t miss anything.

While the competitors are young, the referees are often older. They are there to ensure respect for traditions. I imagine that when younger, these two gentlemen were on the other side of the table, playing the bagpipes. After learning, they are now able to judge. And to transmit the Scottish culture.
