When it is well done, I think that a pottery can contain all the landscape from where it was born. A bit like a glass of Scotch Whisky. This is the case at Edinbane Pottery. Watching Julie work is a fascinating moment. Fifty steps are needed to create such an artisanal ceramic. First of all, there is the raw material: clay. Then there are the precise actions.
Now, I’m looking at Julie applying colours inspired by the Isle of Skye’s nature: the sea, the coast, the rocks, the sunsets. In a stylised way, each element finds a place in the creations of Edinbane Pottery.
While I look at the ceramics in the window, I see others being born under the expert hands of three potters. Each piece is unique and evokes memories. Watching them brought back emotions I felt in front of the Neist Point lighthouse, Cave of Gold or the Fairy Pools.
