The main axis of Edinburgh city centre is the Royal Mile. This 1.5 km road connects the two castles of the city: Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. It is a must-see when visiting the most beautiful monuments of the city.
On the Royal Mile is the charming garden of Dunbar’s close. It is so well hidden that it is very easy to miss. I had trouble finding it!
Its entrance is located at 137 Canongate, at the Canongate Kirk bus stop. You need to find a small copper plate and go under a stone porch. A few dozen meters away, at the end of a paved alley, you arrive at the garden of Dunbar’s Close.
It is a popular place for Edinburgh residents. In the intimate atmosphere of this 17th-century garden, they enjoy sipping a cup of tea or reading a book in peace. I can understand them, the garden of Dunbar’s Close calls for serenity!
