Situated between the fortresses of Stirling and Edinburgh, Linlithgow Palace is very particular. Here, the goal was to relax, not to defend oneself.

Going through the majestic gate, I was expecting to see a beautiful castle. And I’m not disappointed. The palace is in ruins, it was burned in 1746. But even without its roof, it kept its majesty of yesteryear. As I read, construction began in the late Middle Ages and lasted 200 years.

Several kings and queens were born there, including the famous Mary Stuart in 1542. I imagine the castle when the royal family would arrive in Linlithgow. With a little imagination, I can hear the sound of the coaches and horse guards.
