The Golden Road is so narrow, that coming from Tarbert (the largest village in Harris), I almost missed it! It would have been a pity. Of course, if you’re in a hurry, it’s not the ideal road. But if we have the time, you can discover wonders: Scottish hamlets, fjords and almost lunar landscapes. Unbelievable!
To drive on the Golden Road, you have to stay focused. Cars do not have room to cross each other. It is therefore necessary to locate the « passing place » on the aisle. Everyone willingly lets pass the car that comes in front, with a small wave of the hand to thank. A little advice to look like a true Scotsman, keep your hands on the wheel and greet with a raised index finger.
The “passing places” are also considered as « photo stops« . Given the limited parking space, they are perfect for stopping without hindering traffic. Moreover, I take advantage of a « passing place » to take this picture !
